Today, the University of Misurata launched the activities of the “Qudwa” (Role Model) awareness campaign on the dangers of drugs and the reduction of negative phenomena. The event was attended by the President of the University of Misurata, Prof. Dr. Bashir Abubakr Al-Qunaidi; His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Imran Al-Qeeb; the Vice President for Academic Affairs; the University Secretary-General; and a number of deans of faculties and directors of departments and offices at the university. Representatives of the Misurata Municipal Council, security agencies, and civil society organizations were also present, along with broad participation from university students and those interested in awareness initiatives.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Bashir Abubakr Al-Qunaidi delivered a speech in which he welcomed His Excellency the Minister and the accompanying delegation, expressing his gratitude to the Ministry’s Student Awareness and Counseling Department for launching this important campaign, which aims to motivate young people to rise above negative behaviors and channel their energies toward success.

The President of the University of Misurata emphasized that drugs and destructive phenomena pose a serious threat to our daily lives, as they affect our present, destroy the future of our children, impair the mind, break up families, and weaken social bonds. He stressed that confronting these phenomena is a shared responsibility of the family, schools, society, and universities alike, through strengthening awareness and educational programs and building a conscious generation capable of facing these challenges.

Subsequently, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Imran Al-Qeeb, delivered a speech in which he underscored the pivotal role of universities and educational institutions in protecting students from various risks, calling for the integration of efforts between official bodies and civil society institutions to instill positive values and build a responsible generation that contributes to community development.

The campaign comes as a continuation of the awareness program launched by the Ministry’s Student Awareness and Counseling Department in cooperation with the University’s Student Awareness and Counseling Office, with the aim of spreading a culture of prevention, reducing negative behaviors within the university environment, and building a safe and motivating educational setting.

The campaign activities included lectures and educational events addressing the negative effects of drug abuse, the dangers of bullying and cyber extortion, and methods of prevention, while emphasizing the role of the family and educational institutions in protecting youth and limiting the spread of these destructive phenomena.
