Misrata | September 21, 2026 - The Misrata University Council held its seventh regular meeting of 2026 on Monday, chaired by the University President and attended by council members.
The council reviewed the minutes of its sixth regular meeting for approval and discussed preparations for the 2026/2027 academic year, the mechanism for admitting new students, and the placement of graduates from the preparatory phase.
The council also reviewed correspondence and procedures related to:
- Terminating the secondment of faculty members outside the higher education and scientific research sector.
- Discussing the shortage of faculty members in certain disciplines.
- Reactivating the Department of Health Sciences within the Faculty of Humanities and Applied Sciences, and a proposal to amend the department`s name.
In its latest business, the Council condemned the smear campaign targeting the president of Misrata University and several of its members, which involved spreading misleading news, publishing slander and false accusations, and circulating fabricated rumors. The Council expressed its thanks and gratitude to the Criminal Investigation Department for its outstanding efforts in identifying the anonymous account and determining the individuals responsible for using it. The Council also discussed a proposal to organize an awareness-raising dialogue session on the legal, social, media, and security aspects of information dissemination, the dimensions of rumors, defamation, and document leaks.
The council also condemned the repeated attacks and intrusions into university facilities by certain security entities, affirming its commitment to taking all necessary measures to protect university property, facilities, and the rights of its members, and emphasizing the need to respect the sanctity of educational institutions and adhere to legal procedures.
