An economic dialogue at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Misrata University discusses the challenges facing the Libyan economy and development opportunities.

Misrata | On Saturday morning, July 11, 2026, the Student Union of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Misrata University organized an economic dialogue entitled: “The reality of the Libyan economy between current challenges and opportunities for recovery, and the role of the banking sector, heavy industry and free zones in achieving development,” with the participation of a number of academics, economists, specialists and those interested in Libyan economic affairs.
The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Misrata University, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade for Free Zones Affairs, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan Iron and Steel Company, the Director General of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Misrata, a member of the Misrata Municipal Council, along with a number of public figures, representatives of institutions and sectors in the municipality of Misrata, faculty members, students, and those interested in economic affairs.
The dialogue addressed a number of topics related to the reality of the Libyan economy, including the role of heavy industry in supporting the national economy, current financial and monetary challenges, the importance of integration between the banking sector, industry and free zones, the role of digital transformation and modern banking services in supporting economic development, in addition to reviewing the role of the Misrata Free Zone in promoting economic and commercial activity, attracting investment and diversifying sources of income.
This event comes as part of the efforts of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Misrata University and its student union to promote scholarly dialogue, connect the academic sphere with national economic issues, and provide a platform for the exchange of visions and ideas between students, experts, and specialists.
