Misrata University hosts the first scientific and cultural forum on the world of historian Ibn Ghalbun

Misrata | Sunday, February 8, 2026 - The first scientific and cultural forum entitled “The World Historian Ibn Ghalbun.. His Works and Achievements” was organized at Misrata University, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development and the Department of Historical Cities Management, and hosted by the Faculty of Arts, during the two days of February 7 and 8, 2026, with the participation of a select group of academics, researchers and those interested in historical and cultural studies.
The forum aims to commemorate the scholar and historian Ibn Ghalbun as one of the most prominent figures of thought and history in Libya and the Islamic world, and to highlight his scientific and cultural contributions, in addition to highlighting the historical value of the Ibn Ghalbun Mosque as one of the prominent scientific and religious landmarks in the city of Misrata.
The symposium`s activities included the presentation of research papers and scientific interventions that addressed the biography of Ibn Ghalbun, his scientific works and intellectual achievements, in addition to discussing his role in the scientific and cultural movement, and the importance of preserving the historical and architectural heritage associated with him.
The participants also discussed ways to enhance partnership between academic and cultural institutions and relevant bodies, and to support projects to restore and revive historical landmarks, in order to contribute to strengthening national cultural identity and spreading awareness of the importance of Libyan heritage.
This forum is being organized to support scientific research and historical studies, highlight the civilizational role of Misrata as a scientific and cultural center throughout the ages, and to instill a culture of appreciation for historical and cultural heritage.
