Misrata | Tuesday, December 30, 2025 - The activities of the first international scientific conference, under the slogan "700 years.. Ibn Battuta’s journey: a cultural and civilizational legacy," kicked off this morning at the Faculty of Education, Misrata University, with the participation of a select group of academics and researchers from local and international universities.
The opening session began with welcoming remarks delivered by the President of Misrata University, Professor Dr. Bashir Abu Bakr Al-Qunaidi, and the Dean of the Faculty of Education, along with the heads of the scientific and organizational committees, and the Dean of the Faculty of Global Islamic Call, in the presence of representatives of the Libyan Historical Society, the Department of Antiquities, the ISESCO organization, and the Union of Arab Historians.
A number of cultural figures and those interested in historical affairs.
The opening program included a number of events, most notably the launch of the smart academic system at the College of Education as part of supporting the digital transformation path at the university, in addition to a documentary showcasing the most prominent activities of the college, a creative theatrical performance, as well as the opening of an accompanying art exhibition that was hosted by the college`s corridors.
The ceremony also included a gesture of loyalty by presenting a special presentation about the late conference figure, Mohamed Mohamed Ibrahim Al-Mahrouq, in appreciation of his outstanding scientific and national contributions.
The opening ceremony concluded with the launch of the conference`s scientific sessions, which discussed, across several axes, the historical and diplomatic dimensions of Ibn Battuta`s journey, with the participation of researchers from inside and outside Libya. The conference will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, to complete the presentation of specialized research papers and to promote research in the fields of shared human heritage.
