Misurata, May 31, 2025 - A scientific symposium on extreme weather and climate was held Saturday morning at the Faculty of Arts at Misurata University in Misurata Municipality. The symposium was held in cooperation with the Misurata Meteorological Station and the Geographical Society, Central Region Branch. The symposium was held in the conference hall, and was attended by a number of academics and those interested in meteorology and the environment. The symposium was held under the slogan: "Together for a stable and safe municipality."
The symposium highlighted the extreme climate phenomena experienced by the municipality of Misrata in recent years, such as heat waves and droughts, as well as flash floods and torrential rains. These phenomena are the result of global climate change, as well as natural and human factors such as geological activity, sunspots, and the El Niño phenomenon.
The symposium also covered topics related to climate change awareness, the role of meteorology in reducing accidents, current and expected weather indicators, and the relationship between land movements and weather. It emphasized the importance of climate data in supporting agricultural and marine activities, with the goal of enhancing community awareness and coordinating efforts among relevant stakeholders.
The scientific event concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing national plans to combat climate phenomena. This includes establishing a meteorological research and service center in Misrata, identifying areas at risk, and developing early warning and evacuation mechanisms. This will contribute to building an integrated system for managing climate disasters and mitigating their impact on society.
