The department of Midwifery and Newborn Nursing is one of the departments of the faculty of Nursing – Misurata University. The goals of the department of Midwifery and Newborn Nursing cover three main areas: education, scientific research, and community service. Thereby, the department aims at training cadres that are capable of providing professional services in the field of nursing, contributing to scientific development, working on skill development in nursery, and most importantly promoting health care services in Libya.

About

The department of Epidemiology and Infection Control, that was just opened this year, is one of the main departments in the faculty of Nursing. The department is concerned with the occurrence and spread of diseases and the various health problems among individuals and communities, in addition to dealing with the variables of infection through studying contextual factors with direct or indirect impacts on health. Additionally, the science of epidemiology and infection control pays great attention to conducting surveys, undertaking field research to determine the type and extent of diseases and different health problems, and finding suitable solutions through the development of sound health plans and programs to prevent the spread of diseases and health problems and control them when they occur.

Mission

Training highly-qualified cadres in terms of knowledge and practical training of the essential skills needed in the area of epidemiology and infection control aiming at boosting the level of public health in the community

Goals

1. Providing educational programs that are based on modern perceptions of the science of epidemiology and infection control, and fulfilling the aspirations of the community.
2. Training highly competent, skillful specialists in epidemiology and infection control.
3. Conducting field-based research about health problems, and disseminating knowledge with a view to promoting the community.
4. Developing the skills of technical personnel in the area of field epidemiology through continuous training.

1. Epidemiological monitoring of infectious diseases, and measuring their infection rates in the community.
2. Conducting surveys, as well as field research about diseases, pandemics and various contagious diseases.
3. Initiating contact tracing of patients of contagious diseases, and taking the preventive measures towards the contacts according to health systems.
4. Using International Classification of Diseases for coding diseases, infections, and deaths in the community.
5. Participating in research studies related to health problems through making interviews, collecting and analyzing data, and formulating results of studies.
6. Playing a role to the evaluation of the quality of health services with aview to promoting them.
7. Measuring health indicators related to diseases, deaths, and the functioning of health centres.
8. Participating in the implementation of programs associated with the control and eradication of diseases in cooperation with the health team.

Vision

The department believes that theoretical knowledge and practical skills are both essential for training highly qualified epidemiologists that take the responsibility of safeguarding the community from epidemic diseases with a view to promoting public health in the community.

About

The Department of Therapeutic Feeding is responsible of training highly competent cadres in the area of nutrition science and its therapeutic fields aiming at covering the needs of the community. In fact, therapeutic feeding is one of the most significant specializations in applied medical professions due to the effective instrumental role it plays in dealing with both healthy subjects and patients who need treatment, especially after the spread of diseases related to nutrition and life worldwide, such as obesity-related diseases, diabetes, and heart disease.

Mission

Achieving distinctiveness and leadership locally and internationally by training well-qualified competent clinical nutritionists that take the responsibility of providing nutritional treatment to individuals and groups in the various health institutions, as well as distinctive reseach programs in the area of therapeutic feeding at the local and international levels.

Goals

The department seeks to train highly-qualified professional cadres that are capable of working in the various health institutions, providing distinctive services in the area of therapeutic feeding, practicing the profession of nutrition and health care, and obtaining international appreciation and recognition of the outputs of the department and its graduates.

Nutritionists must be professionally trained by paying great attention to both the scientific and practical parts of their training, in a way that enables them to manage the status of the patient and find out the appropriate nutritional program for their health condition. Nutritionists must also be capable of introducing nutritional information to individuals and the community accurately and make awareness-raising nutritional programs aimed at changing bad nutritional behavior and habits into good ones.

1. Identifying psychological, economic, social, and health-related factors associated with the nutritional status.
2. Cooperating with doctors in support of the treatment of the medical conditions of patients.

The department of Psychiatric Nursing is one the scientific departments in the faculty of nursing – Misurata University. The department is concerned with teaching the basics of human behavior, human behavior in the case of illness, and psychiatric nursing.

Department of Prosthetic Limbs


About

Prosthetic Limbs is one of the medical disciplines studied at universities under the category of health rehabilitation disciplines. The department of Prosthetic Limbs covers studying the replacement of lost limbs from accidents, illnesses leading to losing limbs for medical reasons, or even lost limbs that may be caused by birth defects.
Additionally, the department of prosthetic limbs deals with medical assistive devices that control, direct, and limit the movement of a certain joint or part of the body, restrict movement at a certain direction, help patients do some movement patterns, doing fracture repair after healing, changing the shape of a part of the body or its function to ease movement or reduce pain, as well as helping weak muscles do their job in the movement required to perform day-to-day works.

Based on our belief that the disabled and people with or who need prostheses are among the most important segments of society, we aimed at doing our best to provide the necessary health care and services they need in a way that creates a more supportive environment, one promoting their full integration into society.

The department of Prosthetic Limbs aims at training highly-qualified cadres that are highly trained scientifically and practically in a way that enables them of acquiring the skills and techniques needed for providing the best health care services to the various kinds of people under this segment of society. 1. Supporting our country with highly qualified cadres that are capable of evaluating the conditions of people with various types of disabilities and providing them with appropriate Prosthetic Limbs or medical assistive devices according to their clinical conditions.
2. Improving the quality of life for patients, and supporting patients with disabilities from illnesses or injuries to become relatively more independent.
3. Doing the best we can to reduce obstacles for patients and help them overcome difficulties, search for why such difficulties exist and find appropriate solutions for them.
4. Putting a lot of effort into taking care of people with prostheses limbs and providing them with special services that compare favorably with services that could be provided abroad, thus ensuring their comfort and helping them avoid the trouble of travel and movement.
